PSYCHOSOCIAL RECREATION PROGRAM
The Psychosocial Recreation Program is a part of the Psychosocial Rehabilitation Program.
Psychosocial rehabilitation is the process of increasing functioning of persons with a brain injury or stroke, so they can be successful in their environments of choice with the least amount of artificial supports. These environments include the individual’s living, learning, working and social environments.
Psychosocial rehabilitation encompasses a wide array of services such as:
- case management
- 1:1 support
- recreation activities
- education
- support groups
The purpose of the psychosocial recreation program is to provide a safe, secure and accepting environment in which individuals can develop social skills, build on community reintegration, continue their rehabilitation, learn to live a healthy active life and improve their quality of life.
A healthy and active lifestyle helps:
- prevent depression
- alleviate symptoms
- prevent disease and degeneration
- reduce risk factors for stroke and heart disease
It is hoped that by encouraging individuals to participate in the psychosocial recreation program we can assist them in improving their health and quality of life.
